Tyrolean Village is a family-run resort that has been renting chalets at the base of Blue Mountain since 1964: twelve of them, from 4 to 8 bedrooms, with full kitchens, big dining tables, fireplaces (some wood-burning) and private hot tubs on most. You book your dates, load the car and head north on the 400; the chalet is warm and working when you pull in. When the weekend ends you hand back the keys, and the maintenance stays with us.

From downtown it's about 2.5 hours: Highway 400 north, then west toward Collingwood and Blue Mountain. It's close enough that a Friday-after-work start still gets everyone up the same evening, so Saturday begins at the mountain instead of on the road. And because it's a weekend you rent rather than a place you own, nobody has to go up early to open the cottage or stay late to close it.
No chores, no maintenance list, no owner's to-do
These are full chalets, not campsites: full kitchens for real group dinners, big dining tables, BBQs, fireplaces, and games rooms with ping-pong on several. Most have a private hot tub outside and several have saunas — the parts of cottage life people actually drive for, with none of the upkeep that comes with owning them. Your job for the weekend is to cook, soak and sit by the fire; ours is everything else.
You don't give up restaurants to leave the city
Trading Toronto for a cottage usually means trading restaurants for whatever's in the cooler. Not here — the chalets are walking distance to Blue Mountain Village and its 25+ restaurants, shops and bars, so the group can cook one night and walk to dinner the next. Downtown Collingwood is a short drive when you want to make a morning of it.
About 2.5 hours away, in every season
In winter you're minutes from the lifts at Blue Mountain, Ontario's largest ski resort, with a hot tub waiting at the end of a ski day. In summer the same chalet comes with our private sandy beach on Georgian Bay — reserved for Tyrolean guests, about five minutes away by car — plus golf, escarpment hiking and cycling on the Georgian Trail. Come fall, the escarpment turns colour and the drive up is half the point.

Do we need a car once we're there?
You'll drive up, but once you've parked you can leave the car for most of the weekend — the chalets are within walking distance of Blue Mountain Village and its 25+ restaurants, shops and bars, and the lifts are minutes away. You'll want the car for our private beach on Georgian Bay, which is about a 5-minute drive, and for a run into downtown Collingwood.
How big a group can one chalet sleep?
Our twelve chalets run from 4 to 8 bedrooms, so most groups fit under one roof rather than splitting across units. Our biggest chalets have 8 bedrooms - like the 8-Bedroom Stand-Alone Chalet (54) - and every chalet has a full kitchen and a dining table big enough to actually seat everyone.
Is it worth the drive from Toronto in winter?
Winter is when the drive earns its keep — Blue Mountain is Ontario's largest ski resort and the lifts are minutes from the chalets, so you can ski all day and come back to a fireplace and, at most chalets, your own private hot tub. Several have saunas as well. The same run north - about 2.5 hours - works just as well in July, when the private beach takes over from the hill.
