Family Day Weekend at Blue Mountain: A Chalet for the Long Weekend
Family Day falls on Monday, February 15 in 2027, which gives Ontario a three-day weekend in the middle of ski season. At Blue Mountain it is one of the three winter periods that fill first, with Christmas and March Break, and our chalets at the base of the hill go early for the same reason families like them: a 7 to 10 minute walk to the lifts, one kitchen, one table, and bedrooms for everyone from the grandparents to the cousins. Here is how we’d plan it.
Three nights, one house
Over the long weekend the minimum stay is 3 nights rather than our usual 2, so most groups arrive on Friday the 12th and leave on the Monday. That is the right length for a family: a full Saturday and Sunday for the hill and the Village, and a Monday breakfast before the drive home instead of a Sunday rush.
| Who is coming | Chalet | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 8 | Apartment B1 | 4 bedrooms, fireplace, a 150 m walk to the ski lifts, pets welcome |
| Up to 10 | FO1 or FO2 | 4-bedroom cottages, fireplace, pets welcome |
| Two families, up to 20 | FO1 + FO2 together | The two cottages side by side: one house each, Saturday dinner in one of them |
| Up to 14 | One luxury chalet | 7 bedrooms, 14 beds, private hot tub, washer and dryer |
| Up to 20 | Chalet #54 | 8 bedrooms, 15 beds, private hot tub, indoor cedar sauna, parking for 8, pets welcome |
| Up to 28 or 42 | Two or three luxury chalets | Matching houses next door to each other: one per family, everyone within a few steps |
Families with children are welcome in every chalet; our usual rule that guests are 25 or older is for groups of adults. Holiday weekends cost more than a regular one, and every chalet page shows the exact price for your dates; the price guide has the typical range. If your numbers fall between the rows, booking several chalets together explains how we pair them.
Why to book it now
We tell people to book 3 to 4 months ahead for Family Day, which means now. The holiday weeks are the first thing to fill every year, and the long weekend is the first February date to go. A booking takes a 40% deposit with the balance due 30 days before arrival, and you can cancel 30 days or more ahead for a refund less the card fee, so a Family Day booking made now stays refundable until mid-January. More on timing in how far ahead to book.
The hill, and everything that isn’t the hill
The ski hills are a 7 to 10 minute walk from the chalets, or a 1 to 2 minute drive, and Apartment B1 is 150 m from the lifts, so a family can split up without a car: the early risers walk over for the first lifts, the rest follow after breakfast, and whoever is done at 2 PM walks home to the fireplace. Blue Mountain posts its open runs on its conditions page.
Not everyone skis, and on a three-day weekend nobody skis all three days. Tubing, skating and snowshoeing are nearby, and cross-country skiing and the Scandinave Spa’s outdoor baths (for the adults) are each a short drive; see our spas page. Blue Mountain Village is a 10 to 20 minute walk, with shops, restaurants and the events plaza, and our winter page has the lot.
Feeding a family for three days
Each chalet has a full kitchen with a standard-size fridge, stove, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, pots, pans and cutlery, and a dining area sized for the house, so breakfast happens before the hill instead of in a line-up. Bring all your food, including the basics like salt, oil and coffee, and a cooler or two for a big group. There are no BBQs in winter except at the luxury chalets, which have one all year; a BBQ can be rented for $95 for the weekend if arranged ahead. For the one night nobody wants to cook, private chefs and caterers come to the chalet, and the Village has casual family restaurants a walk away.
A three-night plan
- Friday: check in between 4 and 7 PM at our office on Grey Road 19; if the drive runs late, call before you leave and we’ll arrange your keys. Groceries on the way, an easy dinner, and the hot tub at #54 or a luxury chalet.
- Saturday: the hill for the skiers, tubing or skating for the rest, and the big dinner back at the chalet.
- Sunday: a slower morning, a second day on the hill or the spa, and the Village in the afternoon.
- Monday: breakfast together. Checkout is 11 AM; a late checkout until 3 PM can sometimes be arranged for $75 plus tax, so ask when you book.
Good to know before you book
The minimum stay over Family Day weekend is 3 nights. At check-in we take a credit card pre-authorization as a security deposit, $1,000 for a 4-bedroom and $1,500 for the larger chalets; it is a hold, not a charge. Beds come made with bedding sets, pillows and comforters, and every chalet comes with towels; bring your own toiletries. Dogs are welcome at #54, FO1, FO2 and B1 with no pet fee, two pets at most; the luxury chalets are pet-free. Each chalet has a maximum number of guests, the town’s noise bylaw applies at all hours, and hot tubs close at 11 PM. The full list is in minimum stay and check-in and our rental information.
Missed the weekend? March Break, March 15 to 19, is the next to fill, and the weekends either side of Family Day are regular 2-night weekends.
Hold the long weekend
Pick February 12 to 15 on any chalet page and enter your headcount, or call and we’ll match you to the right chalet while the weekend is still open.
